IDEA Donna Farm is a 1/2 acre farm situated directly on the IDEA Donna Public School campus in Donna, Texas. Donna, Texas is located in the middle of the Lower Rio Grande Valley. It is also situated in a “healthy food desert” term coined by the USDA as a place where people have limited access to healthy food. Most of the produce that is grown goes straight to the cafeteria which serves over 1400 students daily. The rest is grown for local farmer’s markets to raise awareness of the farm and it’s mission to provide sustainable, fresh, healthy, and organic produce to the students of IDEA public school.
Farmer Tuley, does the day to day operations of the farm, preparing for markets, harvesting, etc. and also maintains the farm blog. He has been active in community gardening since 2009 and has been with IDEA since October 2011.
