On The Farm: Environment Club Weekly

It’s always nice when you don’t have to do all the digging.  Some student from the College Prep Environment Club came by on Thursday after school and helped begin shoveling a path from the back of the farm to the outdoor classroom.

The shed was a mess and needed some organization so the students helped build some shelves and hang a wall organizer.

One of the most effective ways to increase your plants ability to produce is to weed out plants that are competing for nutrients.

You must weed your mind as you would weed your garden.  -Terri Guillemets

Finally, we were able to inter-plant lettuce with early harvest radishes.  Radishes are able to be harvested in just 25 days and the lettuce will be around 45-60 as I can harvest more than once.

Drudgery is as necessary to call out the treasures of the mind, as harrowing and planting those of the earth. -Margaret Fuller

Another day and another project moving the farm forward.

About ideadonnafarm

I am the resident farmer for IDEA Public Schools in Donna, Texas. I, along with the students, tend an acre right on the school grounds. The things I grow go straight to the students plate, fresh and healthy. This blog is about the projects, ideas (pun), and all around happenings on the IDEA Donna farm. If you live in the area and want to help out, feel free to email me at justin.tuley@ideapublicschools.org.
